I’ve been a professional event photographer longer than I’ve been a professional at just about anything else. It started off as “Hey, you have a camera, take some photos at this fundraising gala.” To full fledged official event photographer status for a number of corporations and not-for-profits in Toronto and Ottawa. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority, a fantastic client based in Ottawa, brought me in to cover their Internet Forum from a new venue at the Museum of Nature (as seen above).

GOHBA Awards – Green Custom Home of the Year
I was thrilled to photograph this exciting new project by John Donkin Architect and RND Construction which went on to become a finalist at the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association (GOHBA) Housing Design Awards in several categories and won the prestigious “Green Custom Home of the Year” award.
Editorial Photographer – Ottawa Magazine for September/October
Money, kids, interiors; editorial photographer needed? I’m there. I had some great assignments from Ottawa Magazine these past few months. The above image was for the most recent issue featuring on money – the kids all had their own ways of earning it (or in some cases not earning it), and they all brought out some of their favourite purchases. While the creative brief called for an all-white background, I pushed back to my editor feeling that a more “moody” image would stand out better and differ from the same tired “Kids on bright white” imagery that has basically become cliché in magazines. To accommodate this, I had to build out the grey background until it fit all the text (and even then they had to cut some).

Interior Photography Editorial – Broadmoore House for Our Homes Ottawa
The thrill of interior photography is that you often don’t know what you’re going to see inside someone’s home and, as is often the case, you can walk away completely blown away by what you encounter. This was the case for my most recent editorial assignment from Our Homes Magazine, when I walked into the kitchen of Denis Staples and saw this incredible wine cellar attached to his kitchen by Capital Cellars. I was overwhelmed in general, by the spacious bungalow (designed and built by Chuck Mills Residential Design & Development Inc., as the kitchen – with work by Deslaurier Custom Cabinets, floors, counters, and rooms were so open and lush with detail that I wanted to shoot them from far more angles than was practical for the assignment.
