I was pleased to see my photography back on the cover of the latest issue of Our Home Magazine this season. It’s a great feeling as an editorial photographer to have your work represent the entire issue. It shows a lot of trust from the publisher and, honestly, is just plain cool to see on newsstands. The article also got a lot of two-page spreads, which helps showcase the work of the builder (and my photography).

Extreme Family Photography 2015 Edition
I find that Extreme Family Photography goes in waves. It’s not something everyone needs every year, and that’s fair, because it’s a lot of work. Take the Stewart/Doubt/Howell/Evraire family above. Easily my largest composite image to date: 8 adults and 3 children (no pets in this one, thankfully).
Ottawa Business Portraits
What a summer! There wasn’t a day in July that I wasn’t out shooting. Corporate headshots, custom stock, editorial photography and events all kept this photographer as busy as he’s ever been. Bu,t in that time, I put aside a critical part of what I should be doing: I didn’t share my work! Now these aren’t always going to be the most exciting portraits. The subjects aren’t extreme athletes, or artists, or models, or out there doing something that photographs spectacularly. These business portraits serve a simple function of conveying an individual in a professional manner that is representative of them as a person, and reflective of their business. After the jump you’ll see some of the people and businesses I had the pleasure of taking portraits of over the past few months.
Environmental Portraits – Eating & Drinking for Ottawa Magazine
It was my great pleasure to be assigned environmental portraits for Ottawa Magazine’s 2015 Eating & Drinking guide. For starters, I love incorporating subjects into their places of work or leisure and I take pride in carefully staging and lighting a scene. Secondly, I’m a big fan of eating. I wouldn’t say I’m a “foodie” but I certainly enjoy a bit more than the value menu at McDonald’s. The job was to photograph six different business owners around Ottawa, representing a short list of some of the best places within each category. I visited a baker, butcher, deli, shops that offered prepared meals, specialized, and generalized in food.
MediaStyle – Corporate Headshots 2015
The kind folks at MediaStyle were some of my first commercial photography clients in Ottawa. In 2011 I went for a hard-edged ring-light look to their corporate headshots. While I did follow-up portraits in the following years, nothing stood out quite like that first portrait set, so I wanted to go back to a more creative-light approach to the images; something that wasn’t as easy to replicate time after time and would stand out when used in social media or on their website.
