This is some crazy-ass vegetable that makes me think of this article and a bit of that cool new Romulan ship from the Abrams Star Trek.

Got a call from Younes this week, “wanna go shoot a sunrise?” Wake up at 5 AM, sub zero temps at the faint hope (failed hope) of getting one of those truly memorable mornings? What else was I going to do – Sleep?

The man’s a talent, visionary really, he gets sickly excited when he sees a rock coupled with some clouds and the faint tint of orange in the sky – he’s also defeated, utterly and personally when those perfect factors don’t take formation – guess that’s why he’s a bit of a nihilist.

Younes puts on workshops and gives private workshops in the Ottawa area (do private workshops come with a happy ending?) – worth every penny – it’ll teach you how to be a better photographer no matter what your intended “field” (I thought it was taking pictures of things, no?). You also get so see someone truly passionate in their art at work; it’s love in the very purest sense of the word.

Great sunset in Ottawa today, good thing I got to see it from behind this tree!

Projects are good. It doesn’t have to be a brilliant one, or even one that you think will win any awards, but setting out with a goal in mind. Like, say, shooting descending sequential odd number or even numbers gets you thinking. Thinking of how to find “the shot” and a bit more, how to take it once you get it.

I won’t lie to ya, I’m not a huge fan of this pic, but it represents me getting something out of the way to continue with my goal, my next number: 15.

You’re not always going to make great photos, sometimes you’re going to struggle just to take good ones, a project like this will teach you that; to keep your eyes open, and take the shot when you’ve got it – even if it’s not the greatest.

Spent a GREAT few hours out at Westboro beech in Ottawa today. More than half the time was me trying to figure out a few spots to take some portraits and actually sitting and just taking a breath! AMAZING!

Sitting down is certainly under-rated. Sadly I was solo (aside from my subject) so I was lugging around my bag of gear, my lighting bag (of gear), and a small duffel bag with a little bit of gear in it. We did pretty much use everything and I’ll maybe show you one of the photos from that shoot in a day or two.
