Interior Photography – More work from Grassroots Design & Build

Not all interior photography is a full-on award winning home, quite often it’s a small but important renovation. I know incremental renovations are all I can afford, and a simple update to a bathroom, kitchen, or another important room of your home could be all you need to fall-in love with your space all over again.

I’ve photographed dozens of interiors for Grassroots Design & Build this year, and I’m consistently impressed with Emma’s commitment to good design, details, and keeping a project on-budget. Of course, so much of the expense in a reno are the fixtures you choose, so an expensive, but well placed centrepiece like a natural wood counter-top can add quality and style without breaking the bank.

More kitchens

See? Older home, add some shiny (very shiny) grey cabinets and BOOM. You’ve got a practical space to store all your plates, teacups and chips.

An interesting trend, that isn’t always practical, is the “opening” of spaces. Which is great if you don’t have a lot of stuff, or have enough square footage to put all your storage along the walls. Otherwise, a small window from the kitchen to the dining room may be a more practical approach, allowing for cabinets and shelving on a wall that, otherwise, may not exist in more modern designs.

Design

Without even building anything extravagant, good design can transform a space. Good hits of colour and gorgeous dining room table allow this young family to eat, work and play together in the same space. If they need to entertain even more people the smaller table that serves as the home office can be added to the main length as an extension.

Add some transitory colours and textures to adjacent rooms and you’ve got a custom-designed home without breaking down any walls.

Other Rooms

I wish I had a “sitting” room. My home-office is kind of a sitting room, but instead of places to sit I have loads of camera bags and gear that my wife is constantly on the verge of throwing out the front door.

Also, no interior photographer’s blog post is complete without at least a small bathroom reno.
