Portraits

Like I said yesterday, Mel wanted to shop. Retail therapy is very soothing for a woman (call me a misogynist? If I took you shopping, would you spend my money? That’s right, thought so, especially you, Barb.). I was also introduced to Simons for the first time, I’m sure anyone who’s even been near there […]

I need a face camera – something that takes pictures directly from my eyes. Yes, I understand that cameras currently work in this way, but what I mean is that Quinn (pictured) never looks at the camera the same way that he looks at my eyes, and it’s truly a difference that I will work […]

People are so patriotic sometimes. There’s another dude who bombs around Ottawa on his scooter decked out with Sens stickers, flags, logos – he even wears Senators branded sneakers. All I can hope for, when aged and speeding on a scooter, is a “Thinsite 4 Life” bumper sticker which, hopefully, Brad will also have one […]

Another shot from Dancing in the Streets. I think we should all take a chance to get out and do something this last weekend of summer. I promise myself that I will not be a lazy photographer this long weekend and use my camera and associated peripherals EXTENSIVELY. I will also stay far away from […]

Maybe my own accumulation of toys hasn’t been for nothing, and maybe my son (not pictured) will want a full* set of Simpsons Action Figures.Maybe he’ll enjoy statuettes of our mutually favourite Marvel Super Heroes, or even thank me for making sure I had ALL of the full-sized replica Lord of the Rings swords. Maybe […]

Tsst! Tsst! Thanks to Lynn, we got to go to a cottage for the first time this year. And thanks to Paul (pictured) the 2:1 dog to person ratio was kept in-check and under control.

Owen doesn’t like Ice Cream, I know this sounds weird, but it’s the cold that bothers him. So he’s lacking a bit in technique, y’know when it’s getting a bit too soft you have to do those mouth bites, get bigger chunks? Well Owen can pretty much only give it tiny licks… Which gets messy […]

Those cupcakes gave me gut-rot, or at least some sort of pink disease.

Enjoyed a lovely extended stay in Toronto. Thanks to my moms for taking a month off to clean her house and giving us a place to stay. Thanks to Paul for putting up with Mel and my shopping-Marathon (Queen Sized Batman Sheets!!). And a very very special thank-you to everyone who came out to see […]

One of the sad things (of which there are few) about moving to Ottawa is that Quinn doesn’t get to see one of his Grandmothers often. I grew up this way too – my granma Marry was up in Timmins and we were hard pressed to make a trip up to visit her (only a […]

same night as this. To continue my cranky old-man story; the teens at the beech kept thinking my flash was lightning (note the lack of significant storm clouds). So every time I shot, I’d hear a “Fuck! Did you see that, it’s like the storm is over there behind the tree!” Assholes…

Paul’s one of the most important people in my life, he’s the member of my family that isn’t constricted by our own narcissistic genetics since he’s married in through my mom. This is me experimenting with a two-flash system; my 430ex and the new 580exII – now the trick is going to be to replicate […]

Mel’s cousin Angelle has been coming around a lot lately, which is great because it gives Mel a break from handling Quinn all day (Future Quinn please note; you were, and continue to be, a lovely son). I think, though, some of Mel’s friends and family may be getting a bit sick of me sticking […]

Sucka doubled his weight in two months! A few more weeks and we can eat the baby! Update 06/18/2008: Just weighed in at 8lbs!… a pound a week…

As an agreement of sale on our new house, the front yard perennials were not included as chattel with purchase. So a few weeks ago the previous owners came and dug out all of the perennials – that’s right – everything that was in the yard. So we had a big ugly maple tree, some […]

Mel said I should print this one out for the girls mother, which I will, but I think I’ll get her to hand it to the lady. The scenario: “Hi, I was taking pictures of your pretty little girl here – don’t believe me? Here’s printed proof!”Lady – “KICK PUNCH!” Nuff said.

I used to like to swing as high as I could, basically high enough that gravity, not centripetal (or is it centrifugal?)force pulled the swing down. At the apex, the absolute highest my own momentum would take me, I’d let go of the swing, suspended in air for a brief moment as I slowly drifted […]

Don’t you hate it when you go out and someone is wearing the same outfit as you? It’s worse when they look better wearing it too!

I don’t know if people usually get presents for the Victoria Day weekend, but Mel and I did; Quinn’s home and resting on my chest as I type this. We’re having baby/daddy computer time.

I think parenthood means you don’t get weekends – or evenings. Every minute of free time Mel and I have is spent either going to the Hospital, spending time with Quinn, shopping for the house (an arduous weekly task that always ends in tragedy) and no super-fun computer time for JVL. I wouldn’t trade it […]

See, Mel hates this photo, and there’s a bit of apprehension as I post it, but I think it’s a really good reflection of her eldest son Owen. He’s always leaning into the camera, making goofy faces and, yeah, I’ve really accentuated his features here, the puffs under his eyes, his freckles, but fundamentally it’s […]

This is Ryan, one of my new co-workers. Last Friday, being the spot-on beutiful day that it was, we all made the trip to the Prescott on Preston street in Ottawa for some drinks and messy meatball sandwiches. I “chickened” out though, and opted for fingers and fries as a safety.

So to give you some perspective on the size of a 3lb Preemie; here he is in the NICU.
