Mel and I (and Quinn) went to Montréal this weekend. At first I thought maybe a change of scene involved touristy things – exploring, photos, long walks – but I quickly realized that was what I liked to do. Mel wanted to shop, but thankfully (for me) she was up for my roam through old-Montréal and watching me as I fussed with my tripod and long exposures.
Sadly, despite my efforts, level shots remain elusive…
I am so lazy with my processing now. I loathe leaving Lightroom for Photoshop. Sure, when I do, I tend to be very happy with the results. But Lightroom is just so EAAAAASY.
I borrowed a rebel xt this weekend since the broken hand isn’t conducive to my normal setup (1DMKII w/ 24-70mm lens). It was a nice reprieve from the weight, but that’s the only thing I liked – I don’t miss the XT at all, changing ISO through a menu system, poor metering, and lazy autofocus kinda bummed me out and had me missing my own gear.
These inukshuk’s and rock sculptures are at a point close to my home along the Ottawa River, a local artists puts them up – he’s even been given his own little plaque by the city. While there I noticed some kids taking apart one of the sculptures and throwing the rocks into the water, the artist was there and he approached the girls father to tell him that what the girls were chucking in the water was a sculpture. Aggressively, the father told the artist to get out of his face. He’s not paid to do this, this is just what he does. But it’s not like anyone would be paying any mind to this insignificant section of the river if it wasn’t for his art – so how about a bit of respect?
If Attila even cared, he’d probably give me a hard time for posting so many HDR’s, the purist that he is. As it is, they just happen to be the better shots I’ve been taking lately (aside from those of Quinn, which I’ll keep to myself mostly).
I got roof access to my work building thanks to the supervisor, Peter, to take some 8am morning shots (not bad considering the sun’s been rising around 7:30) over the Glebe, I tried to do some pano’s, but they weren’t very interesting – too many rooftops. And the fisheye kept catching the building ledge – I gotta get used to that.
Likely a tilt-shift lens would have been cool, maybe the 90mm – I’ll rent one for the next time I’m up there (or higher).
I need a face camera – something that takes pictures directly from my eyes. Yes, I understand that cameras currently work in this way, but what I mean is that Quinn (pictured) never looks at the camera the same way that he looks at my eyes, and it’s truly a difference that I will work hard to capture.
