The title of this should read “I went on a photowalk and all I got was this lousy texture shot,” but really, I got so much more.

This past Saturday was the 3rd year of the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, and the second year I was a group leader. There’s not much credit to take as leader though, it’s not a workshop so I’m free from having to teach anyone anything – not that I could – the talent present this year is totally blowing my mind.

While I barely took any shots myself, the group has been filling up our flickr pool with some fantastic art. You can see their work here.

The group was full of generous, friendly, genuine folk; the kind you’d invite over to your house, if your house could hold 50 people. Definitely something I should look into for later…

Tara

Tara
I have lots of favourite shots that came out of the wedding, but this one’s a really great photo of the bride. She loves trees, plants, and earth, so despite the wedding being at a yacht club, we were able to find some greenery for her to hug up close to.

Tomorrow is the 3rd annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, which I’m leading in Ottawa for the second year. I spent a lot of time this year working with local companies getting some cool goodies for all my walkers. There are going to be 50 of us hanging out in the Market downtown tomorrow morning, so if you see a huge group of photographers – smile!

Reception

Reception
Last Saturday was Tara & Tony’s wedding. It was crazy humid and I had to go two notches down on my belt as the day went on, in order to prevent my pants from completely dropping off.

We were at the Brittania Yacht Club in Ottawa and, at first, I wasn’t crazy about the layout of the room but when the sun started coming in through those west windows I just saw some great backlit/highlight opportunity.

This shot is an HDR, bracketed in order to expose a bit for the shadows in the foreground. I’m kinda surprised I was able to handle all 3 shots handheld!

Crocs

Crocs
Quinn saw buzz light year and HAD to have them. Proud he picked out his own shoes, kinda lame they’re crocs though.

Growing up

Growing up
I suck at many things. It’s easy to admit – nobody’s really good at everything are they? (okay, maybe some people ARE good at EVERYTHING but we don’t like them very much)

One of the things I’m particularly bad at is marketing. Professionally, marketting myself would be the best option, it’s cheaper, it’s grass-routes, it’s kinda what I’m already doing but in a strategic way. Thing is, I suck at it. Any chance that I would, or SHOULD have to market myself I don’t. I might be a “creative” by way of photography and taking photos – but when it comes to the business side… well… I need help.

So if you come to this blog and read my ramblings and see the site that hasn’t been “professionally” groomed and there’s no price page for weddings and portraits and no update to the about page – don’t worry. I’ll still take a really good photo of you. I just suck at marketing it.
