Long delay from my last post, appologies, I wanted y’all to soak that one in. Prices on the canvases will go up on the 25th, they’ll have to, the event is gonna cost me some $$… so if you’re in town you might as well show up to it too.

Despite jonesing to take some serious photos this weekend, I held off, only to snap a few of a more personal nature, which are always great, I mean, I love taking photos of my kids; they’re cute as hell. But something inside me really wants to CREATE an image, it’s what I know I want to do. I get made fun a bit by my friends and family “how long will it take you to set up” stuff like that… but it’s the KIND of image that’s in my head I need to create, and that usually takes a bit of time, thought and equipment. Not saying I need more equipment (you reading this Mel!?) I’m just saying I need to get it outside, in the right spot, at the right time of day, set it up, test it, shift it, and do it again.

Ironically my paying clients are far more in-tune to this process, which I am VERY thankful for. Tomorrow will be one of those days. A corporate headshot of the Adenyo executive team. Some might view this as tired or stale, but not me – to me these are the shots I WANT to take. 10 minutes per person, pumping them out but trying to create something unique and quality within a restricted timeframe? That shit’s part of the game that I LOVE. Hopefully I’ll get to share some of the results too.

For a few years you (my readers) have steadily come to this site in search of, well, I’m not quite sure what. At first it couldn’t have been good photography, though I hope to have relieved you, mostly , of that burden, by producing some work that I’ve come to be proud of. Over that time, a few of you contated me, here and there, asking to buy prints. Of course I was thrilled!

Knowing that something that I worked on, something that I saw, and processed, and posted that somehow, some way, meant something to YOU, is just absolutely thrilling. Humbling really. Every time I sold a print I felt like you were doing something special for me, that you were providing affirmation that my work has value.

I’m happy to annouce something I’ve been working on for a little while now. A way to provide the readers of this blog a take-away that is special, more than just a shot on a screen, or your desktop background for the week. Today I’m launching a line of high-quality, limited edition canvas prints. I’ve teamed-up with local canvas producer, canvaspop, to ensure that I can get you the best possible quality, at the best possible pricing.

These canvases are to be strictly limited to 10 editions each (SO RARE!). When one sells out, you’ll have to buy a different one. They will be hand numbered, signed, and have a metal plaque (pictured) affixed to them so you know it’s legit.

For those in Ottawa, I’ve also worked with my fave local food guy, Terry Hino, to display my work until the end of this year. We’re having a gallery night, event, showing… thing on October 25th at 7pm and I’d love to see you there. Here’s a link to the Facebook event. (while you’re there, how about you *like* my page too!)

These prints are on sale NOW
for a limited time at a special introductory price.

Over time, if these are successful, I hope to introduce other specialty products of your favourite images, and maybe a few of mine too. Thank you, everyone, for all your encouragement and support, and if you have any questions, there’s no shortage of ways to get in touch with me…

Chinatown

Chinatown
Ottawa got itself a Chinatown Arch. Now, definitively, people will know where Chinatown is. Before, visitors had to vaguely guess. I mean, being surrounded by Phở joints would only denote that you’re in Vietnam-town right? WRONG!

Sommerset St. West might be the highest concentration of Phở outside of Hanoi… but it’s still the only Chinatown Ottawa’s got.

Anyways – Chinatown Arch, now you know where Chinatown is… right there, where the Arch is, hard to miss.

I also posted a few more shots over on Flickr.

about-o-town

Family portrait taken in Ottawa. I hadn’t used much rim/separation lighting in the past (the light behind them), and as such I’m laying it on a bit thick on my shots right now. Like most things, it’ll take some practice to finesse it into something a bit more natural and subtle.

I have a different crop of the same shot over on Flickr.

Jen & Tyler

Jen & Tyler
I was very fortunate to be a part of Jennifer & Tyler’s wedding this past Saturday. Timing was an issue for us getting together – basically a tweet went out two weeks ago saying someone was looking for a wedding photographer – yours truly answered the call (…tweet).

I had one chance to meet with the couple, and really, even that was mostly Jen – they both travel quite a bit for work so I was seeing them 5 days before the wedding… which would also be the next time they saw each other!

It was a small, intimate gathering, so there won’t be too many shots for me to share here, but I do have another up on Flickr if you’re interested. For whatever reason I prefer the contrast a black and white treatment brings BOTH of these images… it’s coincidence, I assure you.

On a completely unrelated note, I now have a facebook page so if you’re on this thing, feel free to drop by and give me a “like” I swear I’ll get some content rolling there as soon as I get the hang of things.
