Wellington West: Business Improvement Area Commercial Photography

Twiss Webber environmental by JVLphoto

I photographed this series as a part of a creative campaign with Character Creative for the business’ along Wellington West in Ottawa. I enjoyed being able to create commercial photography in my own neighbourhood, with some of my favourite shop owners.

I’ve always enjoyed environmental portraiture. There’s an added challenge in being able to take any space and make it work in a photo. I also had to shoot for the banner layout which meant some cropping at the top and bottoms of the frame. Being able to see the finished product – the banners – displayed around Wellington West, a place where I shop and live, gave me a great sense of pride as well. Working fast and light, I mostly used my Elinchrom battery powered ELB1200 and ELB400 to create the images the way I wanted.

Photographed at Fresh Air Experience, high-quality outdoor goods, and service shop for skiing and cycling. Where you can either purchase, rent or have your current equipment repaired. They also offer a variety of apparel for both skiing and cycling.

Supply Demand by JVLphoto
The image was taken at the Supply & Demand – Food & Raw Bar a beautiful restaurant with great food built with an open kitchen overlooking dining area keeping an open feel to the whole place. Often purchasing from local farmers and suppliers, the menu changes due to availability from those we buy from. Included in the image are Roasted Beets, Kale Salad, and Tuna Crudo.

Mural by Ryan Smeeton for Iron North by JVLphoto
A new mural in the works painted by Ryan Smeeton on the wall of Iron North Studios. This being Ryan’s most recent mural showing the change in Hintonburg, with a history of working-class jobs to now growing with many entrepreneurs and unique small shops.

Ministry of Coffee environmental by JVLphoto
The image was taken outside of one of my favorite coffee shops, The Ministry of Coffee. The Hintonburg location is their larger location with more seating options, indoors and outdoors. A fully stocked whiskey bar, and begin serving wines and local beers at 11.00am. It is a great place to get together with friends for a morning cup of joe, or for an evening of casual drinking while playing board games indoors.
